In this video i attempt to open a patio door that has got stuck locked.

Tap the end of a chisel under the door stop on the striker side of the jamb. If the door of a front load washer either won t lock shut or won t open it s likely that the door lock assembly is on the fritz. The mechanics of the lock have broken leaving the top section of the door completely. Use the chisel to remove the door stop.

Open the patio door very slightly and turn the lock. Pry up on it until it comes loose and remove it. The washer control may not unlock the door if the water level pressure switch indicates the washer is still full of water. It it doesn t check to be sure the door is properly aligned.

If you have difficulty locking the door it is most likely due to the locking bars not lining up with the locking holes in the door track. The locking bars attach to a disk on the inside of the door lock and stretch across the width of the door.
