Ge front load washer starts shut down with door locked.

My ge front load washing machine has stopped water is leaking from the door and the door locked light is on. I show the symptoms. If the door will not latch then the washer will not start. If the door physically opens the washer will pause.

To manually unlock the door on this washer you first unplug the washer from the wall outlet and then remove the lower access panel. Reach up inside of the unit near where the door lock is and you will feel a small tab at the bottom of the lock assembly. Find the lid switch. Plug the washing machine back in and then within 30 seconds quickly open and close the lid six times.

The lid switch is the part on top loading washing machines that sends the machine a signal indicating that the door is closed and that it is safe for the machine to run. If the washer door is not latched shut the door switch prevents the washer. It should be an oblong hole that is aligned so that a rod on the inside of the door will fit into it.
